LA + Talú Collaboration
Tie-Dyed with Weld, Indigo & Madder
Our new collection Dathú is a collaboration between Liadain Aiken Knitwear & Malú Colorín of Talú. We knit hats in natural ecru, wash them and send them to Malú to be dyed with natural dyes. This Bláithín Raglan Cardigan has been tie-dyed with Weld, Madder and Indigo in the Talú studio in West Wicklow. Using natural dyes is not only better for the environment but also makes knitwear compostable at the end of its life, returning to the earth with ease.

Each of our beautiful Dathú Cardigans are knit on hand-driven knitting machines and hand-dyed with plants. The creation of each hat consists of nine stages. From knitting to linking, hand-sewing to natural dyeing, washing to ironing, machine sewing labels, hand-sewing buttons and tagging, each stage performed with love from our hands to your head. Our merino yarn is traditionally spun and dyed in Donegal in Ireland. The dyes we use come from plants grown and processed in Europe using organic or low-energy methods that don’t cause deforestation. These plants have tried and tested historical efficacy and colourfastness.
